General Manager

Position Overview

Our client is a well-established Canadian manufacturing organization seeking an experienced General Manager to oversee the operations of a significant manufacturing facility.

This is a key leadership position responsible for driving operational performance, developing people, improving processes, and ensuring the facility consistently meets its financial, production, quality, and customer commitments.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on manufacturing leader who enjoys being close to the operation, developing strong teams, solving problems, and creating a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Areas of Accountability

• Provide overall leadership for the facility’s day-to-day manufacturing and operational activities.
• Develop and execute strategies to improve productivity, profitability, quality, and on-time delivery.
• Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors, managers, and other members of the leadership team.
• Establish and monitor KPIs related to production, labour, quality, safety, costs, and customer service.
• Work collaboratively with Sales, Engineering, Purchasing, Finance, and other corporate functions to support business objectives.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve production processes, workflow, capacity, efficiency, and labour utilization.
• Champion a strong health and safety culture throughout the organization.
• Maintain a high level of visibility on the production floor and build strong relationships with employees at all levels.
• Oversee production planning and scheduling to ensure customer commitments are consistently met.
• Monitor financial and operational performance and work with senior leadership to achieve established targets.
• Support recruitment, employee development, performance management, and succession planning.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and foster a culture focused on accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
• Address customer and operational issues effectively while maintaining a focus on long-term business performance.

Experience & Leadership Profile

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience managing a manufacturing facility, plant, or substantial production operation.
• Experience within heavy manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, fabrication, equipment, automotive, transportation, or another complex manufacturing environment is an asset.
• Strong understanding of production, scheduling, quality, labour management, and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing teams.
• Strong financial and business acumen, including experience with budgets, KPIs, costs, and operational targets.
• A hands-on and approachable leadership style with a strong presence on the shop floor.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• A track record of improving operational performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and employee engagement.
